Frequently asked questions

Cold, heat, pad reuse and integration: the essential answers before turning to your healthcare professional or our team.

Should you apply heat or cold to a pain?

As a general rule: cold (Cryopad) after exertion or on a heated, swollen area; heat (Thermopad) on muscle tension or stiffness. If in doubt or if pain persists, seek the advice of a healthcare professional.

How long should you apply a cold pad?

Application times depend on the area and the situation. Follow the recommendations of your healthcare professional and the instructions provided with the product. Avoid prolonged direct contact with bare skin.

Are Cryopad and Thermopad pads reusable?

Yes. A Cryopad pad goes back into the freezer between uses, and a Thermopad pad is simply reheated. Both are designed for dozens of cycles.

Can a pad be applied directly to the skin?

It is recommended to place a thin protective layer (fabric) between the pad and bare skin, especially for cold, to avoid any discomfort. Refer to the product instructions.

Which body area calls for which pad?

Today the technology covers 12 body areas — head, neck, face, shoulder, hands, wrist, back/lumbar, hip, knee, leg, ankle, breast — each with a dedicated anatomical cut, in a cold version (Cryopad) and a hot version (Thermopad). The pad can also be adapted to any part of the body.

What is the difference between Cryopad and Thermopad?

Cryopad is the cold technology (cryotherapy, vasoconstriction). Thermopad is the heat technology (thermotherapy, vasodilation). They share the same cuts by body area.

Can the technology be integrated into our own support devices (brace, garment, etc.)?

Yes. This is the heart of the Cryopad licensing offer: an ingredient technology to integrate into your own support devices — orthopaedic braces, sportswear, post-operative gear. See the Licensing page.

Is Cryopad reimbursed?

Cryopad and Thermopad refer to the thermal pad technology: they are not subject to any promise of reimbursement. Certain braces, however, may be eligible for coverage; check the reimbursement conditions applicable to the device concerned with your healthcare professional.

Keeping your pads for the long term

Three simple steps to preserve the cold, the heat and the casing of your pads cycle after cycle.

01

The cold (Cryopad)

Place the pad flat in the freezer between uses. Let it reach the desired temperature before application.

02

The heat (Thermopad)

Reheat the pad according to the product instructions, then check the temperature before application to avoid any hot spot.

03

Cleaning

Wipe the casing with a damp cloth. Do not pierce the pad. Store it flat, away from excessive heat sources.
